Which are the most common names in Spain?

The data is from the 2024 Population Census, published the National Institute of Statistics (INE). However, the trends are changing, and newborns are being called different names such as Lucia, the most common name for newborn girls since 2023. In the case of boys, Hugo is gaining more relevance. In both cases, more than 3.000 babies were called Lucia or Hugo.

After Antonio, the most common male names in Spain are Manuel (534,398), José (501,731), Francisco (436,217) and David (372,358). Meanwhile, in the female section, after Maricarmen, the most common female names are María (551,105) and Carmen (340,920), followed by Ana María (266,129) and Laura (258,829), states 20 minutos.

As for surnames, García continues to be the most common surname in Spain, shared by almost 1.5 million people as their first or second surname, with more than 75,000 people having it as both surnames. It is followed by Rodríguez, González, Fernández and López.
